The Cause is Unknown
A self-reflection of my personal understanding of pain, treatment, and medical examinations, The Cause is Unknown illustrates my lived experience of menstruation.
The collection highlights my excruciating period pain and makes it visible after years of medical neglect. Cyanotype and gel plate prints reveal my story through colour, play, and material exploration. The cyclical nature of printmaking mirrors the experience of repeatedly seeking help, and of the menstrual cycle itself.
The Cause is Unknown invites viewers to share their own experiences of menstruation to connect with each other and challenge the normalisation of menstrual suffering.
